| Machja organic cotton is produced by 300 farmers on 800 acres in Maharashtra (India) and the farmers are paid in advance for their organic cotton. Machja is overseen by IFAT (International Fair Trade Association). This guarantees that the goods are manufactured in meeting the requirements of fair trade and are used for the development of small producers and workers. This workshop is the result of a regional nonprofit rehabilitation program, run by Franciscan nuns and employs 120 young women with disabilities or belonging to disadvantaged castes. |
